Jane responded to a local pub advert on Facebook “Book club starts here on Tuesday at 8pm” with an enthusiastic “looking forward to it”. This single post made her a “top fan” of the Facebook group which should have told them everything.

With the promise of a free pint Anne soon signed up and on Tuesday at 7.45pm they were eagerly trying to spot other perspective members entering the pub.

No one seemed to fit their stereotypical image.

Maybe they were sat in the wrong area they mused, to find out Anne went on a scouting mission but found only pub regulars and a man called Alan with whom she had apparently done one armed fingertip press-ups  20 years ago on a night out. Alan was now 80 and keeping well.

Jane set off again moments after Annes return, expectantly eyeing up a 60th birthday party gathering to see if any of them carried a book or had one under the table. They hadn’t.

On asking, the barman was also none the wiser “Book club? Here? Don’t know anything about it”

"Never mind", they said, "we’ll have our own book club"

The process of deciding on a book was fairly easy, to save a few pennies they would read a book they both already owned. Hport27 had donated Anne one after her last visit.

As a self confessed book addict, the fact that this book was available on Amazon meant the chances of Jane owning it were high. She did.

Lessons in Chemistry would be the first book.
